Dutch authorities are checking a type of chemical commonly known as “COVID-19” after 61 immigrants arrived over the weekend from South Africa. Dutch media reports that those tests proved positive for the single-stranded beta-glucan strand of the virus that can be lethal to unborn fetuses.
All the 51 men and 14 women were screened for the COVID-19 variant. The female immigrants were sent to the patients’ home countries for further monitoring, while the 41 male immigrants have been banned from traveling to the Netherlands until the situation is clarified.
On Saturday, authorities discovered that a baby was dead from the Ebola-like illness tested positive for COVID-19 in its maternal blood. The deaths of the babies were the first in the Netherlands from the new virus, which had been circulating in South Africa.
