Cuban Workers' Unions Condemn the US Embargo

UN votes overwhelmingly to condemn US embargo of Cuba

The National Union of Public Workers (NUPGE) and the Workers’ Central Committee (CCC) of Cuba, both national unions of Cuban workers have supported the embargo, and today, they unanimously decided to condemn the embargo against Cuba by the United States as a violation of the sovereignty of the country of Cuba, a position announced after the vote at a press conference held at their headquarters in Havana.

In addition to the trade union organizations calling for solidarity with the people of Cuba and condemnation of the US embargo, the members of the two main Cuban labor organizations in the United States also expressed their solidarity with the Cuban people.

Among the speakers of the press conference were also the leaders of the two union organizations:

“Cuba is a state that seeks peace. We know that the United States tries to impose a unilateral blockade over Cuba, as well as a blockade against its own people. Cuba has always been a supporter of the peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and negotiation.

Cuba is also a nation with rich culture and rich traditions of all of its aspects, and it is the second largest economy in Latin America and the Caribbean, with an annual growth rate of 10 percent.

The history and culture of Cuba have a lot of beautiful memories that we are proud of, which also are a part of the history and culture of the United States, and we also feel that the United States also has a rich history and culture.

What we want to say for all of those is that the embargo against Cuba is an aggression, and that it is a violation of the sovereignty of the country of Cuba, and that the United States government has to stop this blockade imposed by the United States government.”
