Ronaldo cites ‘heat of moment’ after left off Manchester United squad

Ronaldo: ‘We were out-played in both halves’

Ronaldo was left out of the Manchester United squad against Liverpool on Sunday after he failed a fitness test.

The Portuguese playmaker was left out of the side, which was announced in a team featuring Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Phil Jones, Adnan Januzaj, Marcus Rashford and Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the player had to sit out due to a knock last week.

However, Ronaldo appeared to brush off the news, as he sat in at the side of the bench at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

‘It’s a football thing,’ he added. ‘Any player can get injured in the heat of the moment.

‘It was not the choice of the manager or anyone else, he was injured and it was his decision.’
