Granderson: Kanye West’s life and art are one. You don’t have to keep watching, you know?
I didn’t have to. I keep working. I keep making. I keep doing what I do. I’m doing my best work. I’m doing it every day. I’m doing it without any fear. I’m making good work and I don’t feel like I’m living two lives as a hip hop artist and as the father of two as some people do. I was born to be a father and I want to continue being a father. If I can make as much good work as I do, I can do what I was born to do and be the good father to my children that I was born to be. But I got to think about what I do and make sure it’s going in the right direction because if I don’t think about it right then it’s going to go out the wrong way. I can’t worry about what people are saying, because that’s a big concern, but what I want to do is continue being the man I was born to be.
What I want is to make good music. I want to help a lot of people. I want to be in the church. I want to speak. I want to get people to know what’s really on my mind. I want to be with my family. I want to go fishing. I want to get up before the sun and make music every day. I think everybody in America has a dream, and I have a dream, and I wanna make it happen.
It’s also something that I think a lot of people can’t just dismiss off the bat, particularly someone like Kanye, whose life has become an issue because of it.

You don’t have to continue watching, man.
I’m not going to continue thinking about the past. I’m not going to continue worrying if I was in the wrong place. I’m not going to continue thinking about my life. I just have to make good work and do what I do. My job is to make good work and then I’ll move on from that.
So now, I just gotta continue building up, man.
