Rafael Nadal said he and his family are’very well’ after the birth of his first child.
Nadal confirmed on Thursday that he was the father of a daughter, who will be named after Maria Sharapova.
The former world number one tennis player and current number 21 in the world is the first of five children by his wife Carolina, with whom he has a 17-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son.
‘I am very well, I am happy to have my daughter. I am very glad and I feel very good,’ the five-time Grand Slam champions said on Thursday.
‘A mother and father, I would say, the best.’
Nadal announced his pregnancy earlier this year, adding that he planned to continue his career.
At the time, the Spaniard had said that he hoped he would one day be the father of four children.
Nadal and his family are expected to announce the birth of Nadal’s first child next week, while announcing he is to retire at the end of the year.

Nadal announced his pregnancy on September 13, revealing that he planned to continue his career. He would be 41 when the delivery takes place, on November 18.
At the time, the Spaniard had said that he hoped he would one day be the father of four children.
Nadal’s first child has already arrived after his wife brought the baby into Spain on her back during a holiday in Morocco, in an apparent attempt to avoid any delays to his tennis career.
