The incident took place just minutes after the 9-year-old had walked with his mother, who was shopping at a nearby clothing boutique. Neighbors of the family told the AP that the mother was seen screaming at the two men to stop and that some of the men yelled back that they were not going to hurt the boy.
NBC News is reporting the boy was recovering from a stab wound, with his current condition described as “stable.” The Associated Press did not report on the boy’s current condition, but reports that he has sustained “life-threatening injuries” appear to come from NBC News.
